You must know alan well enough now to know what films he would like, even ones that haven't ever been mentioned by him or anyone else. Not as easy as it seems because more or less anything with Americans in is out. And obviously its a bonus if the film is really bad, like these two I thought of: Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984). This disasterous and ridiculous 'serious' treatment of the Tarzan story would be right up Alan's street. He'd sit sombre through all the film's most (unintentionally) hilarious scenes, such as Christopher Lambert pretending to be an ape, scampering up into a tree and throwing things at posh people, and Ralph Richardson's character sliding down the stairs on a tea tray like he used to when he was a little boy and North Sea Hijack (1980) starring Roger Moore (called Ffolkes in the US), plays a most Alan-like character. Maybe not Alan-like, but what Alan wants to be like. Sample dialogue: ADMIRAL BRINDSEN (James Mason):I suppose you're one of those fellows who does the Times crossword puzzle in ten minutes. RUFUS EXCALIBUR FFOLKES (Roger Moore):I have never taken ten minutes. I think Alan probably likes, or would like, Excalibur (1981) because of wanting to call his house that and would also like Orca: Killer Whale (1977) starring Richard Harris
