Surely Richard Madeley is the inspiration for Alan. Has anyone seen him & Judy on Channel 4 recently - he is hilarious! Check out these random quotes:
"And that's a self-portrait of himself, by himself."
"When we (himself and Judy) were trying to conceive, I would douse my balls in icy cold water before intercourse."
Priceless!

Spot on. There was a Richard & Judy episode when they were having a big discussion and they were talking about those little backpacks that everyone wears these days. Richard said he thought they looked cool and everyone laughed at him. So Richard stood up, got his bag and walked up and down the studio posing with it trying to prove he looked cool. - without a hint of irony. It was unbeleivably funny, he out-Partridged Partridge.

Hmm... I dunno if the inspiration behind partridge is an amalgomation of loads of different people, but if we're 'real life partridge' spotting, I can think of no better example that Robert Kilroy Silk! I mean, did you ever actually watch his programme??? so bad! plus he comes out with some classics that could so easily have been partridge isms.

I h8 2 burst ur bubble, but Alan Partridge was based on a radio interviewer who was interviewing Steve. Steve immitated him during the interview. That's where all the inspiration comes from.

Is that interviewer James Whale? I know that James gave Steve somewhat of a break by having him on his show. James is a bit Partridge-like in some ways. He is quick to lose his temper with guests and callers. If anyone dares to argue vehemently against him, he will go ballistic. Once, he walked out on his show and his producer had to present until they got him calmed down, I think. He said something like "I can't put up with all these stupid people. This country"! Then he walked out for a bit. Funny guy, but a good show in a lot of ways, until he started talking about how the world was going to end soon and did a show about it every night. Depressing!

Interesting what you said. Never heard of James Whale. Do you have any links or pics you could post?
