I find one of the most humourous aspects of the show to be the inane way in which he DJ's. Is Steve actually a fan of the music Alan plays? Or does he just play tracks that viewers may find amusing as you don't hear of the artists so often these days?! Alan certainly seems to be a fan of the 70s/80s soft rock scene! Kate Bush possibly features the most? Roxy Music too (remember the Comic Relief interview) Level 42, Phil Collins (apparently the No Jacket Required Tour Jacket he wears for the visit to Lynne's mothers grave and through most of that episode is really quite rare). Queen. Gary Numan - the list goes on and on. Maybe they are just random bands that Armando, Peter and Steve have come up with? Peter (Guybrush, Bill Oddie)

"... Guaranteed to blow your mind!"
You forgot to mention the most influencial band in Alan's life, Abba!
I think the writers chose the music because it is funny. For example, R-E-O Speedwagon and the music from The Saint.
Perhaps they just gathered round a chose songs that would sound good when Alan sang them, like The War of the Worlds theme tune (Wild woods?) and melting Pot.

Does anyone ever find themselves singing some of alans classics at random intervals during the day? I annoy everyone when walking around singing "nobody does it better..." or "sail away sail away sail away" in the style of alan.
Loved it when he was singing "take a pinch of white man..." and so on whilst doing stretches with michael telling him the words "something else in geordie

Yes! Believe it or not I do that all the time. My favourite is 'Sail Away'. But I'm not Enya.

But i'm not a ho! Alans taste is music is baaaaad, nearly as bad as Jeremy Vines. However Alan redeems himself by saying London Calling is awful which it is

The 'song' "take a pinch of white man" disturbingly comes to my mind sometimes too. Alan saying "textbook Lynne" never fails to cheer me up also, although that's not a song.

I say "Eeeeeeee" a lot and also like to say "Bullsh*t." under my breath when I sit down. Recently I have also found myself saying "Bang! I'm James Bond" as well. Apologise for the quote thing. I have learned my lesson. I will keep it shut from now on.

I love those random phrases that he says like "spiceworld" and "jackanakanory!" etc. I always say those when I'm goin about the place. Those who aren't familiar with partridge (God rest their souls) look at me like I have two heads! when really I just have one.

it's occured to me for a while now, that i have the same taste in music as Alan...and have to agree with the man when he states that 'wings',are "..only the band that the beatles could've been!"
but i've also noticed that while Alan often plays some slightly obscure electronic 80's tracks , DJ Dave Clifton will generally play the more obvious ones, that were bigger hits at the time.
i have to admit, it's got to the point now where if an 80s song is on the radio, i will automatically decide whether it is an 'Alan track' or 'Dave track'..does anyone else have this skill/problem??

Alan sings a lot more in series one than he does in series 2. All he really sings in series 2 is "sail away". I missed the singing!
